Empties #1

Hello everyone! It is about time I had an empties post. I have 6 items that I have used up that I wanted to share with you. Let me know in the comments below if you have used these or similar products and what you think of them!

1. Philosophy Raspberry Glazed Body Souffle – This stuff smells like some kind of sweet raspberry pastry and oh my god I never want to stop smelling it. It did well in terms of moisturizing my legs and I will probably buy more of these from Philosophy once I exhaust my body lotion collection.

2. Eva-Nye Freshen Up Dry Shampoo – I found this from Groupon where you could buy two bottles of this I think for $12. It worked alright for a dry shampoo but I bought a couple other brands to test out. If you really concentrated this in one area you could get some white residue but it would disappear as soon as you brushed it out. It did a decent job cutting down on the grease and letting me go longer between shampoos.

3. LUSH Cupcake Fresh Face Mask – This mask smells INCREDIBLE! Chocolately with a hint of peppermint and man was it hard not to lick my face when I had this on. I bought this when my face first started freaking out but it didn’t really help any. Perhaps if you have more oily skin and acne rather than just a one time freak out, it would work better. Also this is a mask that you have to keep in the fridge.

4. LUSH Mask of Magnaminty – Mmmm fresh minty goodness! This mask is more to deeply cleanse your skin and balance it out. The scrubby beads on this are a giant pain in the butt to get off so I would recommend putting this on and then hopping in the shower to take it off so it can make a mess in your shower and not all over your counter and sink. I like this mask a lot and I like that you don’t have to keep it in the fridge.

5. Benefit Agent Zero Shine powder – I have raved about this product before and you know how much I also LOVE the Pore-fessional. Those two products together equals one lovely looking face.

6. Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Spray – I remember picking this up on a whim to see if it would perk up my skin. I didn’t really notice any difference once I finished it so I didn’t bother repurchasing. Although, a little while after I stopped using this is when I think I started having the really bad breakout on my cheeks that still won’t go away. I recently picked up a travel size just to see if it would have any impact but no luck yet. Not too sure about this product. It claims to be redness reducing, pore minimizing, and oil absorbing. Have you heard of this or tried it?

Internet Round Up #7 – Ted Talks

Hello everyone! I come to you today from my formidable blanket fort! Today is my first real day off in a few weeks and I am enjoying every minute of it before I head back to the trenches tomorrow.

TED: Ideas Worth Spreading is a website where you can find videos covering just about any topic you could want! Many talks cover subjects that directly influence our lives today and what the future holds in videos from a few minutes long to over a half hour. TED talks can help us understand ourselves and others better, or simply entertain us, like one of my favorite talks, Mathemagic.

If you aren’t sure where to start or specific videos that you want to watch, TED has a wonderful playlist builder called Surprise Me where you can select one of eight adjectives, such as Inspirational or Jaw-dropping, that you would like the TED talks to be as well as how long you would like the playlist to be, from 5 to 60 minutes.

The TED website also has a list of popular playlists including 11 Must-See TED Talks, 5 Talks to Cheer you up on a Bad Day, How do we make Choices, and so many more. TED.com is one of the top sites that I go to when I need a boost, some intellectual stimulation or to be amazed by some new technology.

A Rainbow of Recommendations

Hello everyone! A couple of days ago I told you about the BookTube-a-thon challenge. During the challenge, there were several video challenges as well that participants could submit for prizes. One of them was create a rainbow of your favorite books! I have tweaked this slightly and turned it into a rainbow of books that I recommend for everyone to read!

Rainbow of Recommendations

RED – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling – This book is really representing the entire Harry Potter series. This series is the book that made me really dive into reading and opened my eyes to the online communities that can surround books! The hours I spent reading fan fiction, trading theories with friends about what would happen in the next books and the parties we had before the movies came out made this whole world and the community come alive. The books themselves are brimming with wild adventures, mischief, and a magical school teaming with all kinds of things to explore!
Goodreads Series rating – 4.44 out of 5 (link here)

ORANGE – Ready Player One by Ernest Cline – I reviewed this book in this post here. I am currently listening to the audio book which I suppose gives you a clue about how much I freaking love this book 🙂 Sci-fi, dystopian novel regarding a high-stakes scavenger hunt set partially in a virtual world? Still possibly my favorite book from this year.
Goodreads rating – 4.30 out of 5 (link here)

YELLOW – The Book of (Even More) Awesome by Neil Pasricha – My friend Meg gave me this book while we were studying abroad and it still makes me smile every time I read it. The book has short entries regarding the little things that make life awesome! Meg also wrote in some notes and awesome things from our time abroad. This book is pretty special and a great thing to read if you ever need cheering up.
Goodreads rating – 4.02 out of 5 (link here)

GREEN – The Economic Naturalist by Robert Frank – I can say, without a doubt, that this book is the reason why I became interested in economics. I randomly picked this book up at Ollie’s in either my sophomore or junior year of high school. The subtitle on this book is In Search of Explanations for Everyday Enigmas. It does just that! The chapter titles reveal all of the different topics that this book covers: The Economics of Product Design, Supply and Demand in Action, The Economics of Discount Pricing, The Myth of Ownership, Psychology Meets Economics, etc. This book may sound pretty unapproachable but it is written for the everyday reader and answers some questions you didn’t even know you wanted to ask!
Goodreads rating – 3.38 out of 5 (link here)

BLUE – The Fault in our Stars by John Green – Break out the tissues because you will most likely cry. I can count on one hand the number of books that have actually made me shed tears, and TFIOS is definitely on that list. I don’t know how John Green does it but this is more than a cancer book, more than a YA book, more than a romance book. This book is important.
Goodreads rating – 4.46 out of 5 (link here)

PURPLE – The Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson – This book actually stands for the Shades of London series with the first book being The Name of the Star. This series is about Rory, an American girl who transfers to a boarding school in London for what would be her senior year in high school. Right as she arrives, the first of a string of Jack the Ripper-style murders occurs and she becomes and integral part of the investigation due to some special powers that she didn’t know she had.  I am currently rereading the series and the third book, The Shadow Cabinet, is due to come out next year!
Goodreads Series rating – 3.89 out of 5 (link here)

Let me know in the comments below if you have made a similar post or what books you would recommend!! 🙂

Lip Product Addict Tag

Lip Product Addict

Hello everyone! I don’t know if I have divulged the fact that I have a small obsession with lip products.  Essiebutton and Amelia created a lip product addict tag (video link here) and I thought I would share my answers with you!

1. Favorite balm/treatment – My favorite lip balm is the line of EOS lip balms. They come in lots of great flavors and with the mint one, I love the cooling sensation that comes with it. For a lip scrub, it has to be the LUSH Mint Julips lip scrub. I did a full review on my post about LUSH products here.

2. Best eye-catching red – The Kate Moss lipstick from Rimmel in number 01. This red is a slightly darker red but the color is just gorgeous and a bit more sultry. The formula is wonderful and I am a big fan of this whole line!

3. Best luxury and best drugstore – My favorite line of luxury lipsticks (these are definitely on the affordable end of luxury but you can only find through Birchbox and the Model Co. website) would be the Model Co. Party Proof Matte lipsticks in the Neutral line. My favorite lipstick from that line is definitely Kitty which is a very pretty warm pink color. The formula is so rich and moisturizing and the color is subtle and lovely.
My favorite drugstore line is definitely the Revlon Colorburst line in both lacquer and matte. You have heard me rave about these many times before so I shall spare you another go around 🙂 My favorite from the matte line is #240 Striking. My favorite from the lacquer line is #150 Enticing.  Both are gorgeous bright reds!

4. Best MAC lipstick – This was pretty hard! I love the Satin MAC Red which was my first MAC lipstick. But I think it has been displaced by a recent purchase, the frost lipstick in Sandy B. I have been loving nude lipsticks more and more recently and this has been a staple in my makeup bag. It is a warm dusty pink with some very pretty shine and it has been perfect for the summertime!

5. Most disappointing lipstick – It has to be the Hourglass liquid lipstick in Opaque Rouge. The color was too dark for me and the formula just did not work on my lips at all. It was streaky, it dried weird and just did not want to cooperate. It had very little staying power and I am happy I only picked up a sample of it rather than buying a full size.

6. Liner? Yes or no – Nope. I have never delved into the lip liner and really have no desire to. Plus having to find liners that match all of the different colors that I have? I spend enough on lip products as it is!! Although Amelia does talk about the Lipstick Queen invisible lip liner going with everything…maybe. We’ll see but for right now, no to the liner.

7. Best Gloss – I am going high-end and drug store lines with this too. Best high-end is the Marcelle Lux Gloss. It is creamy (no stickiness!!) and very nice on the lips.  I love the color #70 Lolita! It is such a warm coral color that goes with pretty much everything.
Best drugstore definitely goes to the Maybelline Color Elixir line! The formula is also very creamy and there are a wide variety of colors to choose from! Breathtaking Apricot is my number one pick from there which is another bright warm coral color.

8. Something extra – Honorable mention for both drugstore lipsticks and lipglosses come from the same company! NYX butter glosses and lipsticks are AWESOME! Lots of different colors, great formulas and the glosses smell delicious. 🙂

2014 Goodreads and BookTube-a-thon Challenge!

Hello everyone! In yesterday’s post I mentioned the 2014 BookTube-a-thon challenge. The challenge was a fun way to tackle your TBR pile with some challenges and to read as much as possible in one week!  Since I was unable to participate in this year’s BookTube-a-thon, I have decided to combine it with the challenges from last year to make myself one giant reading challenge for August. I recently increased my 2014 Goodreads challenge from 150 books to 200 books, so I could use the help!  Some of the books are ones that I read in school but I still consider them part of my TBR list because I don’t remember much about them plus I would like to revisit them for fun. My TBR is getting obscenely long so it is time to make a plan and take it down! 🙂

2013 BookTube-a-thon Challenges:

1) Read a classic – The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer

2)Re-read a book – Looking for Alaska by John Green

3)Read something that had been on your shelf for forever – Bizarre History by Joe Rhatigan

4)Finish a series – I have read the original Maze Runner trilogy by James Dashner but I still need to read The Kill Order which is the prequel to the series.

5)Read something over 500 pages – On top of this challenge, I am also rereading the Harry Potter series. I love rereading it every couple of years and going back to that time of dressing up for book releases, having day-long parties before the movie releases and all of that fun stuff! So my book that I will re-read will be Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I aim to have Prisoner of Azkaban finished before August starts which shouldn’t be an issue. I know this should be for the re-read a book challenge but I don’t really have any books over 500 pages that I want to dive into right now.

6)Read 300 pages a day – This is the one challenge that I know I won’t be able to complete 😦 With the Erie County Fair in August and working some pretty dismal hours, I shall try my best but on the 11 and 12 hour days, I’ll be lucky if I stay awake long enough to read 100 pages!

7)Read an audio book – The Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket and narrated by Tim Curry. I have been meaning to finish this series for ages! I have read up to the 6th book, The Ersatz Elevator, but it has been so long that I really need to start from the beginning and go through them all again.

2014 BookTube-a-thon Challenges:

1) Start and finish a series – Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll

2) Read a book with pictures in it – The Cartoon Introduction to Macroeconomics by Yoram Bauman and Grady Klein (I recently have been needing something economics-related in my life so I found these cartoon introduction books. I read the into to Microeconomics and really enjoyed it!)

3) Read a book from the genre you have read the least this year – Historical Fiction – Mr. Churchill’s Secretary by Susan Elia MacNeal

4) Read a book someone else picks out for you – My friend Kara has been trying for ages to get me to read some Agatha Christie so I shall be reading Murder on the Orient Express.

5) A book with red on the cover – Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock

6) Read a book-to-movie adaptation – Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl

7) Read 7 books in 7 days – Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs; The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey; The Expats by Chris Pavone; The Bermudez Triangle by Maureen Johnson; Mrs Queen Takes the Train by WIlliam Kuhn; Harry, a History by Melissa Anelli; and the Puzzler’s Dilemma by Derrick Niederman

August Reading Challenge

Internet Round Up #6 – Favorite BookTubers

Hello everyone! It has been a crazy couple of weeks so apologies for the lack of posts. I am turning off my phone today and going on a blog post marathon so you will have something to read over the next week or so 😀

We are continuing with the Internet Round Up and unveiling more of my favorite people on YouTube. Today I want to talk about some of my favorite BookTubers and one Book Club channel. All of these creators are bubbly, fun to watch, and of course give great book reviews and recommendations. They have all caused me to either add a bunch of books to my wish list or actually go out and purchase a book that I MUST READ RIGHT NOW!!! In no particular order 1. Read by Zoe (YouTube Channel) Zoe is pretty new to the BookTube community but I feel like she is going to continue rising quickly. She already has over 7,000 subscribers but I can see her rising to become one of the top BookTubers. She is hilarious and I really enjoyed all of her 2014 BookTube-a-thon updates(I will talk about the 2014 BookTube-a-thon in tomorrow’s post)! The first video she posted – The Dangers of Reading – made me laugh so hard and I added it to this week’s Internet Round Up even though it was posted over a month ago. It’s just that good! 2. Malaray of Sunshine (YouTube Channel) Mallory is also pretty new to the BookTube community but I love her bright and sparkling personality and honest reviews of all of the books she reads. If she is frustrated or not happy with a book, she will tell you. If she is over the moon, loving a book, she will let you know. I love it! 3. Books and Quills (YouTube Channel) Sanne is a Dutch bibliophile currently working in London. She enjoys “reading classics, dystopian/apocalyptic novels, sci-fi and a variety of graphic novels, YA and contemporary literary fiction.”  I love Sanne’s in-depth book reviews, her accent, and she posts a lot of creative book tags! 4. Lindsay Hearts Books (YouTube Channel) You will see lots of links back to Lindsay’s videos in the future because she does some very interesting tag videos that will be easy to translate to a blog post! She is very calming and wonderful to watch. 5. Answerly (YouTube Channel) This is the book club channel. On Mondays, Hayley covers a book that has been written by a women. So far she has covered: Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider How to Disappear Completely by Kelsey Osgood Hayley is currently covering Orange is the New Black by Piper Kerman. On Wednesdays, Joe covers humor books. So far he has covered: Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls by David Sedaris Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson I Was Told There’d Be Cake by Sloane Crosley. Joe is currently reading Self-Inflicted Wounds by Aisha Tyler. On Fridays, Kristina covered Young Adult books. So far she has covered: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell The Coldest Girl in Coldtown by Holly Black Beauty Queens by Libba Bray Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell Kristina is currently covering Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.  Kristina also has her own channel and recently participated in the 2014 BookTube-a-thon and is planning on posting more book-related videos. I would definitely recommending following her as well! I’ll link her channel here. INTERNET ROUND UP #6

Makeup Haul Post

Beauty Haul

Hello everyone! Today I just had to share with you some of the fun things I have purchased over the past month(ish).  Let’s get to the products!

Lorac Pro PaletteThe Lorac Pro Palette – (Ulta)
A couple of months ago I bought the mini Lorac Pro Palette with Nude, Pewter and Espresso in it to keep in my purse for touch ups. I fell in love with the creaminess of the shadows, how velvety and wonderful they felt on the lid and the great pigmentation! The staying power is pretty awesome as well. I toyed with buying the full size palette for about a month and after looking at it in Ulta at least four different times, I finally purchased it. I regret nothing. The full palette offers so many great options to create plenty of different looks! The shadows are creamy and pigmented and I may be in love with this palette. I am so happy I finally bought it!!!

Benefit the Pore-fessional – (Ulta) (Sephora)
I received a trial size of the Pore-fessional a while back and really enjoyed it. I tried using the Maybelline Baby Skin as a dupe for it but I didn’t like it nearly as much as I liked the Pore-fessional. It’s a great primer and it works well underneath my foundation to give me a more flawless finish.

Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil

Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil – (Ulta) (Sephora)
I posted before that my face has been having an epic freak out the past couple of months. In my latest attempt to quell the crazy on my face, I ordered the Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil and prayed to the face oil gods. I do believe it has helped some because I am pretty sure part of the reason my face has been angry is because I wasn’t using the best moisturizer for my crazy skin. My face is clearing up a bit and looks brighter and healthier and I do think part of it is due to this oil! I got the smaller rollerball bottle and I am a big fan.

Mac Prep + Prime Highlighter in Light Boost – (Mac)
I have been loving this highlighter from Mac to help brighten underneath my eyes which have been particularly prone to dark circles lately. I suppose I should sleep more and drink more water but alas! This blends very well into the skin (the top stripe is straight off the pen without blending) and it helps me look a bit more awake when all I want to do is curl back up in bed with a good book and a cup of tea 🙂

Josie MaranPhoto Jul 15, 20 31 27

Josie Maran Coconut Watercolor Eyeshadow in Rio de Rose Gold – (Sephora)
This eyeshadow. OH MY FREAKING GOD THIS EYESHADOW! I am in love and I am trying to be good and not buy non-essential makeup for a little while but GOOD GOD I WANT TO GO BACK AND BUY ALL OF THE COLORS!! The top stripe is straight off of the applicator while the bottom smudge is more rubbed in. It is so metallic and feels very nice on the lid.  It has great staying power and works well when you blend in other powder eyeshadows. I love putting this color on my lid and then either Garnet or Sable from the Lorac Pro Palette in the crease. I am mildly obsessed with this eyeshadow and I want to wear it every single day for the rest of my life.

Those are all of the items for this haul. Have you picked up anything recently that you are loving? Let me know in the comments below! 🙂

Beauty Gurus on YouTube

Hello everyone!!! I have missed you guys 🙂 I am finally back where there is functional Wi-Fi and I have a functioning laptop! My brother accidentally took my computer charger home with him from vacation and I just got it back today. Hello glorious laptop and proper internet! I have missed you dearly!
It took me a solid two days to catch up on all things YouTube after I got home from vacation. Luckily I had three days off from work before I went back so I had the time to get caught up, even if my phone took longer to buffer than it did to play all of the videos.
Today I wanted to cover my top Beauty channel picks from YouTube. I LOVE the beauty gurus on YouTube and I am always on the hunt for more awesome channels to follow so if you have some favorites that you don’t see listed here, make sure to leave them in the comments below. Feed my YouTube addiction 😀

In no particular order:

1. EssieButton – (link here)
Oh Estee. She is such a burst of positive energy and happiness and I absolutely adore her videos. She is originally from Canada and is currently living in England with her boyfriend Aslan. During all of her hauls and monthly favorites, I will always see at least one new product that I end up purchasing and, 9 times out of 10, loving. Estee has plenty of great tips and tricks and has many easy-to-replicate makeup and hair tutorials. She is bubbly, funny and someone you just want to hang out with!

2. Missglamorazzi (link here)
Ingrid is a down to earth girl and incredibly informative in her videos. I was just watching her Summer Date Look & Picnic Ideas video and there were little fact bubbles for all of the different products she used. They were either facts about the company or product or they were great tips such as putting your eye gel in the fridge for a great cooling sensation when you put it on! Ingrid’s channel is wonderful not only for her beauty and fashion videos, but also for her DIY and food videos!

3. Tanya Burr (link here)
Tanya Burr is one of the most bubbly and happy people I have ever seen on YouTube. I just want to hug her and have a movie night with her. She is also incredibly talented at creating different makeup looks and putting together some very fun outfits. Tanya recently launched her own line of makeup products – lip glosses and nail polishes. I still need to track them down and give them a test run. Tanya’s channel also has many non-beauty videos and I love watching her.

4. All Things Hair UK (link here)
I recently found this channel and it is AWESOME! The videos feature many of the most prominent beauty gurus from the UK including Estee (Essiebutton), Tanya Burr, Zoella, Ruth and many others. They have how to videos for every hair type and creating all different kinds of hair styles. Definitely a good one to subscribe to if you are looking for some hair inspiration!

5. Fleur DeForce (link here)
My wallet needs to hide everytime I watch one of Fleur’s videos. Her haul videos, monthly favorites, empties, etc. ALWAYS make me want to go purchase things! Her reviews are honest, funny and very informative. Also she is gorgeous and all of her get ready with me-type videos are just beautiful. Seriously, hide your credit cards and cash when you watch her videos.

6. Meghan Rienks/Meghan Rosette (link here)
Meghan is a bundle of energy and so much fun to watch. She has a more bohemian look and her get ready with me videos are so well done. She has a very quirky and fun personality and is unapologetically herself! Her makeup videos are amazing and I have learned a lot from watching her. I always feel happier and better about life after watching one of her videos.

7. ViviannaDoesMakeup (link here)
I love watching Anna because she posts lots of different kinds videos, including a new 101 series which she kicked off with Fake Tanning 101. She does her best to give you lots of tips and tricks – one of my favorite videos being Multi-Tasking Beauty Bits. Anna also posts lots of fashion videos and I really like her style.

Internet Round Up #4

Number of videos – 22
Total length – 2 hours 2 minutes (Yes I know it’s long. There were so many great videos the past few weeks!)

Don’t forget to tell me your favorite beauty channels on YouTube!! 🙂
